Stop watches without wheel with columnsAny typos are as a result of direct translation of the original French. Description of the mechanism
Part in position given to zero. ![]() In this stop watch, the cycle of the functions is identical to that of a stop watch with "double usual push rod"; i.e. the departure and the stop are produced by successive pressures on the push rod No 1, and restoring by a pressure on the push rod No 2. Part of the mechanism, is: the intermediate rocker, the rocker actuated by the push rod No 1 (departure - stop), the spring of friction and the saltire of meter with its slide, are on the bridge of barrel. The other parts of the mechanism swivel or are fixed on an additional bridge covering a part says bridge of barrel. A spring U placed in a hollow of the bridge of barrel, brings back the two push rods behind, when, after having actuated them, one returns freedom to them.
Part of the spring U is under the bridge; one can however set up it, just as
the rocker actuated by the push rod No 1, when the additional bridge is posed.Starting: To see the operation of the push rod of starting and stop, it is necessary to remove hammer N, fixed by two feet and the screws L and L ', on a base or shuttle F. ![]() This shuttle swivels on a steel tenon fixed at the additional bridge, while a screw F ", screwed in this tenon prevents it from rising. The shuttle is under the action of the saltire K; it can take three well defined positions corresponding to the functions of the stop watch. The rocker D swivels on the screw to range D (not on the left); it is actuated directly by the push rod No 1. On the rocker D is fixed the spring D '. The rocker E swivels freely on a screw to range fixed at the end of the rocker D. At the time of the first pressure on push rod 1 to put in function the stop watch, the end E of the rocker begins in the notch f' making swivel the shuttle until the tilted ones of the saltire K cooperates with the tilted ones of the notch D of the shuttle.
![]() When the stop watch works, one cannot operate the restoring. Indeed, if one presses on the push rod of restoring (2), the rocker R swivelling on a screw with R' range (not on the left) goes down, but the pin R fixed at its end does not meet the hammer. Stop: If one exerts a pressure on the push rod No 1, the rockers D and E go down. The end E of the rocker E penetrates in the notch F of the shuttle and actuates this one. The shuttle F takes the position of the figure below: ![]() The tilted ones of the saltire K, cooperating with those of the notch of provide the function of stop. When one passes from the position of stop watch moving to the stop, at the moment when the point of the tooth located between the notches D and of shuttle passes on the top of the saltire, the "curve" of nozzle N of the hammer operating the pin B, raises the intermediate rocker and releases the intermediate gear of the wheel of center.
![]() Restoring: When the stop watch is stopped, a pressure on push rod 2 fact of descending the rocker R; the pin R actuates the hammer while acting in the "sage sheet" of this one. As soon as that push rod 2 is released, the rocker R actuated by the spring U retrogresses, while the tilted ones of the hammer are maintained in contact with the shoulders of the hearts, thanks to the pressure which the top of the saltire K against tilted D "of the shuttle exerts.
![]() During the restoring, prominence h' of the shuttle actuates nozzle I of the rocker of meter I, so that the teeth of the intermediate gear of meter cannot come into contact with the finger, at the time of this function. |
